“Never give up and believe in yourself.”— Lulu

Lulu, born JiRu Lu, was inspired to leave her hometown of Shanghai to study graphic design because of her childhood love of creating artwork and posters. There are two tenets to her life: work through challenges and treat everyone with kindness.

Art came into Lulu’s life before university. During her childhood, she frequently photographed her family, friends and classmates, developing a strong visual sense that now supports her design practice. Explaining why she chose graphic design, Lulu said, “I love this topic, and I really do my artwork and create some posters. It is my life.”

The person she respects most is her mother. Speaking about her influence, Lulu said,

“She always tells me to be kind to other people, and when I am in trouble, she tells me not to give up.”

A thoughtful teacher also guided her in resolving conflicts with classmates. Recalling the experience, she shared,

“One of the kindest teacher s took me out and told me how to solve my problem.”

Her greatest challenge was failing an examination. Rather than giving up, she created a study schedule and followed it consistently. Reflecting on the experience, Lulu said,

“I never gave up. I made a daily plan for the exam, and in the end I got a great result.’”

Her experience showed that determination and careful planning can overcome self-doubt.

Lulu hopes her younger self would worry less, enjoy life more and live with greater confidence. She also hopes to remain warm-hearted and help people whenever they are in need.

Looking ahead, Lulu hopes to inspire others through art.
“I want to be an ar t teacher to teach the students how to draw,” she said.
